Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 โ Top performance for high-end smartphones
Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset to the market. This state-of-the-art platform is developed on advanced 4nm technology and clearly focuses on improvements in artificial intelligence, gaming, sound and camera performance.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is 30% faster and 20% more efficient than the Gen 2. The eight-core internal processor consists of a Cortex-X4 main core running at up to 3.3 GHz, five high-performance cores at 3.2 GHz, and two efficiency cores clocked at 2.3 GHz. Support exists for LPDDR5x memory with a frequency of up to 4800 MHz and a capacity of up to 24 GB. The chip supports Wi-Fi 7 in the 6 GHz band, including 802.11be, 802.11ax, 802.11ac and 802.11a/bg/n. The chip also comes with the X75 5G modem that supports sub-6 GHz and mmWave antennas.
AI is at the base and center of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform. It all starts with AI Engine, which supports multimodal generative AI models and popular language models for voice recognition โ the chip can process up to 20 transactions per second for instant assistant responses. Qualcomm boasts that Gen 3 has the fastest stable broadcast in the world, capable of generating an image in a fraction of a second.
Qualcomm’s Sensing Hug securely connects to personal information, including preferences, fitness level and location, to deliver more accurate and personalized AI support.
AI improves and optimizes the capabilities of the camera. Through semantic segmentation, clarity and detail of images can be improved in real time, and Night Vision mode allows dark scenes to be illuminated. There is also the functionality to remove unwanted objects in videos, Vlogger’s View that allows capturing both selfies and images from the main camera. Photo Expansion uses generative AI to extend images beyond the original data, and obviously there are improvements to HDR technology as well.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has the ability to deliver games that challenge consoles by supporting 240fps on screens with a 240Hz refresh rate. Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0 is capable of generating frames for smoother rendering, and it benefits from support for Unreal Engine 5.2.
Gen 3 GPU performance has seen a 25% improvement while reducing power consumption by 25%, and Ray Tracing technology has been optimized by 40%.
The novelty will bring joy to lovers of high-quality music, since the new chip allows uncompromising sound playback, at a resolution of 24 bits and a sampling frequency of 96 kHz, via Bluetooth technology.
